Christmas Creativity for
Virgin Cosmetics Company Wins Boxes Prestige Major National Accolade
Boxes Prestige has been nationally recognised for its leading-edge
expertise in luxury product presentation with a major award for the
creative packaging supplied for The Virgin Cosmetics Company Christmas
range.
It’s the ninth time in the 14 year history of The Spotlight Awards,
run by Paper and Print Focus, that Boxes Prestige has won an honour
and the ninth time the Company has been selected for the most creative
use of folding box board. The Event this year, at the Grosvenor House
Hotel in London, was sponsored by Iggesund Paperboard.
The cartons for The Virgin Cosmetics Company Christmas range,
comprising three collections for women - Pure Heaven, Simply Divine
and Blissful, were constructed by the Boxes Prestige design studio and
produced on Avanta Ultra 485um material. They were printed using a
four colour process with either gloss and/or pearl varnish and gold
foil blocking.
Graphics for the cartons were created by Virgin Cosmetics’ Head of
Design, Allison Miles, who said: "Boxes Prestige understands and
shares our passion for perfection which is why we have worked with
them over a number of years.
"This Christmas we set out to create a design based on nostalgic
memories of an era when beautiful things were slowly and lovingly
hand-crafted."
Seven illustrations were selected and the repro arm of Boxes Prestige
was involved at an early stage to ensure Virgin Cosmetics could
recreate the delicate layered artwork as closely as possible to the
original and also keep their 3D effect.
Allison Miles added: "This was a real challenge for us. We had to
print our Christmas design on a wide variety of substrates each with
their own strengths and weaknesses, working tightly within a
cost-effective method of production. We sat down with Boxes Prestige
and decided the best way was to scan the original illustrations as
10x8cm transparencies. All print runs involved key team members from
both companies even when the hours were unsociable! Some may say we’re
obsessive about our dedication to perfection but Boxes Prestige shares
our commitment."
Boxes Prestige, based at Northampton, has recently made the largest
investment in its history with the acquisition of a £2.4m Roland 700
Colour press, uniquely configured to position the Company at the
forefront of its industry. The new technology - the latest on the
market - is nearly twice as fast as existing presses and will result
in Boxes Prestige
becoming one of the most competitive companies in its sector.
The Boxes Group, which has a turnover of £50m, consists of seven
specialist companies and majors on product presentation in a wide
range of fields, from innovative luxury cartons for cosmetics
manufacturers to specialist cartons for the pharmaceutical and
healthcare industries. The business operates from five sites
throughout the UK and is part of Clondalkin, the international group
of companies producing specialist
packaging and printing products.
