Boxes Prestige On Virgin's Territory

Boxes Prestige, part of the expanding Boxes Group, is the new sole supplier of over 100 different cartons for Britain's fastest growing cosmetics line - owned by Sir Richard Branson.

The Northamptonshire-based specialist in luxury product presentation has won, against fierce competition from major packaging companies, a three year rolling contract with The Virgin Cosmetics Company.

The Virgin Vie range, launched in October 1997, is forging a place next to the leading beauty industry players with 10 retail stores across the UK and Ireland. However, the majority of the company's turnover comes from direct selling and the brand took on its 6500th independent consultant in March 2000.

Boxes Prestige's first contract with The Virgin Cosmetics Company was just prior to the launch of the cosmetics' line in 1997, producing a carton for part of the luxurious Eau de Vie range. A second order was placed after Boxes Prestige identified various ways of reducing costs for Virgin Cosmetics by altering what was a rigid box to a folding construction and removing two passes of foil blocking while ingeniously achieving the same appearance.

The following year when Virgin Cosmetics was designing its Christmas range, Boxes Prestige was asked to help further with carton construction ideas. The result was a range of Gift Bags produced without using glue and this packaging later won Prestige the Paper Focus Avanta Award for the creative use of folding boxboard.

At the beginning of 1999, Virgin made the decision to re-source all its core packaging from acetate/PVC top carton board. The Prestige design team was asked to put forward its creative ideas and subsequently won the contract.

Business Development Manager at Boxes Prestige, Clive Earby said: 'We are continuing to go from strength to strength with the Virgin Cosmetics Company's account and one of the significant pieces of work we are especially proud of is producing 129 different colour matches for lipsticks and eyeshadow from a four colour set. This was extremely cost-effective for our customer.'

Virgin Cosmetic Company's Packaging Technologist, Ian Henderson, said: 'The Boxes Prestige design and commercial teams continue to give us excellent service, responding quickly and accurately to our requirements by way of regular technical and review meetings.'
