Ditone Labels Enhances Whisky Manufacturer’s Enterprising Spirit

Long established family company Old St Andrews Ltd is entering the classical Scotch whisky market with a specially-created blend in a newly designed bottle, incorporating advanced technology label designs by Ditone Labels.

Part of Clondalkin, the international printing and packaging products group, Ditone is producing four labels which have been personally designed on a golfing theme by Old St Andrews Managing Director Julian Haswell.  Two of the labels are varnish embossed and all are printed in six colours.

Haswell, who also created the new shape bottle, said: “We have been a highly successful exporter of clubhouse brand whisky and other spirits since 1969.  We now plan to take the Company forward into a new international business arena by launching into the classical Scotch whisky market.

“We’ve worked closely with Ditone on this project because of their innovative approach and flexibility, which fits the way we like to do business.  Also from working with the Company previously we know it’s a highly efficient enterprise.”

Ditone Labels MD, David Stevenson, added:  “Old St Andrews have developed a premium product which looks and tastes like no other.  We are pleased that we’ve managed to develop labels for them which enhances their concept bottle.”

Old St Andrews exports 90 per cent of its products abroad, predominantly to Japan.  Sales are especially strong in the duty free sector.  The company has a £1m turnover and is based in Westerham, Kent.

Ditone Labels is best known for providing customers with innovative individual label solutions using advanced technology and works with many of the UK’s leading brand manufacturers.  The Company recognises that each manufacturer operates very differently and has developed a reputation within the market for its highly flexible service.

Based at Kimbolton in Cambridgeshire, Ditone Labels has recently invested £3m in its plant operation to ensure optimum service is provided.  This major capital expenditure includes a  brand new purpose built factory with a highly efficient production process.  The Company has a broad variety of print process incorporating Flexographic, UV Flexographic, Letterpress, Semi Rotary Letterpress, In-line Screen, Foil Blocking and Variable Printing.  It also has the capability for short and long run requirements.

Ditone Labels is one of seven specialist companies comprising the Boxes group which has a turnover of £35m.
