Boxes Ditone, manufacturer of advanced technology labels, has developed a new security label solution for McCorquodale, part of I.D.Data - one of the worldıs leading producers of plastic cards.

The Cambridgeshire companyıs innovative label technique, which provides protection for a printed personal number, has been designed for use on telephone cards manufactured by McCorquodale at its plant in Lewes, East Sussex.

After purchase, the user scratches off the surface of the label to reveal their individual code, which is used to activate their telephone account. The label incorporates a number of security features to eliminate misuse.

This is Boxes Ditoneıs first contract with McCorquodale which produces more than 200 million cards a year for telecommunications, loyalty schemes, smart card applications and many other commercial uses.

Tim Innes, Commercial Manager, at McCorquodale, said: 'We were impressed by the versatility of the Boxes Ditone label - it was the most durable and adhered to different card finishes. It also incorporates the necessary security we require. We did consider hot foil and screen printing as an alternative but labels can be applied three times faster than hot foil and we can use different designs of overprint to suit customer and product requirements'.

'We have a long-standing reputation for meeting the highest standards of the plastic card industry and we are always at the forefront of technology developments - many of which we have helped pioneer. Therefore it was natural for us to choose to work with Boxes Ditone - a supplier with a leading reputation for high tech bespoke label solutions'.

Boxes Ditone Business Development Manager, Ainslie Bousfield, said: 'After providing McCorquodale with technical advice on print technology and substrate suitability, we were then able to offer a unique patented solution. The short lead-times and delivery assurance, which were vital to McCorquodale, was facilitated by our in-house reprographics department'.
