Clondalkin makes acquisitions

Clondalkin Group Holdings Limited (Clondalkin) announces that it has acquired 100% of the issued share capital of Frievaart Holdings BV, the holding company of the European Packaging Holding Group (EPH).

The EPH companies supply a range of plastic, foil and paper-based flexible packaging products and folding cartons mainly to major European food and confectionery manufacturers.

EPH achieved annual sales of EUR 67million for the year ended 31 December 2000, of which flexible packaging accounted for approximately 73% and folding cartons accounted for 27%.

EPH has six separate operating subsidiaries located in the Netherlands and Germany:

LPF Flexible Packaging BV, located in Leeuwarden, the Netherlands, is a supplier of high quality gravure-printed laminated flexible packaging serving markets for convenience food, dried soup and sauces and confectionery.

Cats Flexible Packaging BV, located in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, is a specialist producer of coated and laminated waxed papers and foils mainly for the confectionery market and is the largest producer of specialist waxed packaging in Europe.

Nimax BV, located in Elst, the Netherlands, specialises in the manufacture of labels & leaflets mainly for the cigar, tea, yarns and household sectors.

LPF Folding Cartons BV, located in Leeuwarden, the Netherlands, produces packaging mainly for the confectionery, household and personal care, food and photography markets, as well as supplying ‘packaging systems’.

Linde Vouwkartonnage BV, located in Denekamp, the Netherlands, produces small order quantities of specialist folding cartons for a wide cross-section of industries.

Clondalkin is an international group of companies producing specialist packaging and printing products. Following this acquisition it has 40 operating subsidiaries in Ireland, the U.K., Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Switzerland and the United States. Clondalkin supplies value-added packaging and printing products to a diversified customer base principally in the food and beverage, consumer products, industrial, pharmaceutical/healthcare, agricultural/horticultural and services/distribution sectors.

Clondalkin's packaging operations manufacture a wide range of plastic, foil and paper-based flexible packaging products as well as folding cartons. Packaging operations account for circa 80% of total Group sales. Manufacturing processes include extrusion, laminating, lacquering, metalizing, printing, slitting and die-cutting.The printing operations, which account for circa 20% of Group sales, produce printed products including promotional literature, direct mail materials, brochures, product manuals, financial and business communication materials and printed plastic cards.

The EPH operations are complementary to Clondalkin’s existing European packaging activities.  This is an important strategic development for the Group and we look forward to being in a stronger position to service existing and prospective customers of both entities through this acquisition.
