Ground-breaking Lawn
Product Provides New Pastures for Boxes GH and British Seed Houses
Boxes GH, a division of the expanding Boxes Group,
is manufacturing a range of striking cartons for a revolutionary new
product called SO-GREEN from British Seed Houses.
The cartons - made from 480 mc board and printed in six colours with
UV gloss for maximum impact - contain a new ryegrass-based lawn seed
which has been proven to stay green during summer drought and
throughout the winter. The ‘stay green’ characteristic originates
from an unusual grass plant discovered over 30 years ago by the
UK-based Institute of Grassland & Environmental Research.
British Seed Houses’ Managing Director, Roger Saunders, said:
"Independent research has shown 70 per cent of gardeners
highlighted ‘green’ as a vital element of the perfect lawn.
Consequently, we have put a significant investment not simply in the
technical development of the product but also in producing
eye-catching promotional materials to ensure it stands out on shelf
and in store."
David Butler, of marketing communications consultancy ABC which
developed the carton design, added; "It was vital the carton was
highly visual - bold, bright and creative to boost both the impact of
the box and underline the contrast between conventional grass and the
year round green colour of SO-GREEN."
Boxes GH, which is British Seed Houses sole carton supplier, worked
closely with key people on the project to ensure the carton was as
striking as possible. British Seed Houses Unit and General Manager,
Simon Taylor, added: "The Boxes GH repro team has great technical
expertise and helped us overcome some teething problems to achieve the
most eye-catching packaging. We appreciate the Company¹s approach -
the customer is always treated as an individual - its professional
advice, flexibility and commitment to perfection."
Boxes GH, one of seven specialist companies in the successful Boxes
Group, is a major producer of high quality folding cartons for some of
the country’s biggest brand name manufacturers of FMCG products. The
Blackburn-based company maintains its leading position in the industry
through a corporate commitment to outstanding customer service and a
programme of continuous investment in the latest technology and state
of the art printing presses. More than £3.5m has been invested
recently in a number of areas of the business.
Boxes GH houses the newest high speed Roland 906 printing press - the
first one of its kind commercially available in the UK and its own
laser cutting and die-making facility both of which improve lead times
for customers by shortening the production cycle.
The Boxes Group, with a turnover of £50m, majors on product
presentation in a wide range of fields, from innovative luxury cartons
for cosmetics manufacturers to specialist cartons for the
pharmaceutical and healthcare industries. The business operates from
five sites throughout the UK and has two companies in The Netherlands.
The Boxes Group is part of Clondalkin, the international group of
companies producing specialist packaging and printing products.
British Seed Houses entered the retail lawn seed market in 1994 and
since then has launched a series of successful retail lawn seed
mixtures, one of which won the Low Maintenance Lawn GIMA New Product
Award 2001. The company has funded the Institute of Grassland and
Environmental Research amenity turfgrass development programme since
1987, developing two new ryegrasses which are now used at Wimbledon
and a number of Premier football pitches. The Company is based in
Lincoln.
